Hey there. Empowered Vegan lifers. This is L. A. And although my co host, Stephanie won't be joining us today, we do have a very special guest with us. And I am so psyched to share her with you. And a Panya Molina is not only the founder of Hogs and Kisses Farm Sanctuary, she is also one of my closest BFF's. Thank you so much for joining me on the show did Thank you for having me and I love you. And I love you right back. And you know what? As soon as that BFS thing came out of my mouth, I felt like I was either super young, like, six years old when I said that. Or like, I'm super old like that's not something people say anymore, you know? Yeah. What do you What do you think?

spk_1:   1:10
I think it's good. I think

spk_0:   1:15
I had like, a shirt with my best friend back in elementary school. My best friend is do your job. Do you have one my way? Should get shirts. Yes, Matching shirt. I'd be down. Well, and I'm so glad you're here because there are so many listeners here that care so deeply about animals. And this is very close to my heart. And I explain this on ah, one of our earlier episodes, and it feels like it's comes full circle around for me being able to be on the board of your farm sanctuary. So I want to get into first before we get into the the nuts and bolts of the sanctuary. Can you tell us just a little bit about you and also your going vegan story?

spk_1:   2:02
Yeah, sir. Sure. Well, let's see. Gosh. So I have not eaten a piece of meat in improbably, I think it's now been 17 or so years. So how that came about was kind of odd. I mean, I really actually grow very meat and potatoes and had many different cultures influence me as well. So it my mom is Korean. My father, Swiss, French and Irish and I traveled a bunch love being ableto incorporate different cooking from cultures or whatever, and I kind of just started to lose the taste for me for some weird reason on I noticed that I would start to eat all of the sides and kind of like, shred up the meat. And I started to notice the veins and the chicken more, whatever it waas and I started to gross myself out a little bit because that was really hitting home to me. What? Itwas that was on my plate like what I was eating. Alright. Sounds like I don't even think it tastes Zachary like I think that was like we're with now. I sat in that space for probably a good 67 years of just passions is really stupid, but because I didn't know any different right or social norms or you're at the table with other people and you just have a habit of right, I eat meat loaf or all right, I have chicken and, you know, so you just order that anyway on. And then I had a few more vegetarian friends. I have a cousin is no loan for beneficiary, and then other coworkers or whatever. I would ask them questions and and stop and listen. There's a whole whoa vegetarians up there. Let me just try it so I could have often tried it one day. And in those few months, I actually started to get sick. Like I started getting, like, you know, colds more. And I was like, This is really weird because there's a world of these vegetarians out there and they're not getting sick. So I'm not doing something like So that's when I started researching more about what kind of nutrients you actually need. Tohave and vitamins and this and that. So it started out for me first as vegetarians. I actually just caught a meet up, and I was that way. I guess he was about Yes, it seven years almost where I fluctuated a bit. And in between that time I met Ella, Um, I think I met you, Ella. Probably going on about 15 years now, I think for you 15 years up in France, you know. Oh, my gosh. I know, right? So anyway, so yeah. So when I do, you were vegan. I was like, Oh, that's interesting. And I love more from you about because I was still doing at that time. Cheese and milk. Well, you know, so I was more like lacto ovo and then I was actually in and out of doing fish toward the end. So from learning more from you, I actually caught all the door dairy all the meat was gone. But I still remember it was doing fish for like that last year. That was the last thing for me to go. And then at that point, I was like, This is really stupid, like I already he did. You know, I gotta make it was just a fish And I think also learning more and more about at that time to now. That's what 10 years ago about our waters and how the the fishing right and support, like the waters were not, you know, part of me. And I was like, Oh, God, I'm still eating, you know? So anyways, just putting it all together. And I have already moved along and progressed about so that way 10 years ago, I was a guard. I'm gonna git, however really went. Plant based is really what it walks, right. That term is used a lot more now because I realized, you know, I still was very much of the fashion and I was buying leather things or my makeup was still name brand stuff and maybe heating, cleaning products or whatever waas you know. And so I took on. At that time, it was step by step by step by step was not overnight, but definitely I was plant based for a long while and also around that time to I incorporated a lot of raw food and my energy levels because obviously you in my life I was exercised learning about back so my energy levels by eating just green unquote stuff. And then I started getting into, like, uncooked desserts trying on stop into the benefits of dates. Let's say are not Serena, whatever us. So yeah, it really was a progression and evolved. And so then I would say I really took on more of like a full vegan lifestyle where I consider myself vegan vegan. I have probably been in, like, the last six years or so, So Plant based was for a while, then, bit by bit, I was oh, my makeup homing us, right? And I started researching feverishly that stuff, then cleaning Spain's and, you know, like it just cascaded, right? Snowball from

spk_0:   7:10
mm I love that. And I love the progression. And it was such a such a progression. And you are somebody who does things, you know, You learn, you research, and then you implement it. So this followed that same same kind of theme here on I also let the whole plant based distinction that that you Because you know what? There's people at all different points learning. Everybody's got to take their own path. You gotta learn and do the make the steps in their time as they learn eso Whether that I remember your closet, I was always so enamored by your wardrobe and yes, you not You had the best wardrobe. I was I was envious. I have to say, I still have. I have hand me downs from you and then I'll meet up you guys and and I'm like, Oh, what's this? Is your This is your Yeah.

spk_1:   8:09
No, I love that because I have an older brother. I did not have, like, an older sister or anything like that. I love that Somebody would want to come play in my closet, you know,

spk_0:   8:18
no much fun, but then yes. Yeah, letting go of those those animal. Yes. Mm. How hard was that for you?

spk_1:   8:26
Oh, I wouldn't say. Um yeah, Meaning they were a couple of pieces. But like in all honesty, towards the end of that, like, I was like, I don't even really what I wear this heels on one occasion, kind of that, you know? And when I like I said when I was looking at more what I was now buying and pulling in to my you know, I was like, Oh, what? What? You know, one of the EU's? Where's the manufacturer? You know, what are their values? What? You know all of that. Stop. I mean, it does. It takes a good bit of research, right? To look into what companies do you really wanna back? But I really realized that part of and when for me, my experience in going vegan and realizing that there's a whole world of how we tree animals or how things are healthy for us or how we are treating our planet. I then started going. I want to put the time in for that. You know, research t do that because I realized that really honestly, my money is gonna vote and that is really gonna be what in maybe a slower change, so to speak, over there, buddy, more and more people vote be a what they buy. I really think that that's going to be making a bigger and bigger right, in fact, so I did the research. Yet Berna

spk_0:   9:48
and the market is definitely starting to shape up that way. And it's it's like we're at this tipping point and I couldn't be more excited about, I mean all the vegan leather and the, you know, the cars that are coming out with the leather made out of pineapple and apple skins. It's just phenomenal to see and all these companies advertising. And, you know, I see this products vegan, and it's a mainstream product. It's just I get so excited. It's so exciting.

spk_1:   10:15
Yeah, I'll just say one more thing on that note to I'm also excited for that in also the food world. Yes, in the product role and in the food world in that like there's own because it made me think of when you said that I had recently shared with you. You know, my husband loves to go and ski and all the stuff I bought all these like zero sub zero cold jackets from Vegan Girl debrief. Anyway, I was like super side because it was like a cool Stover and, you know, like it was some fashion to it, right? And anyway, when we go there together, we go to Colorado. There's this pizza place. It's the only big in place. There are a lot of places have vegan items on the menu, but it is only vegan, and it is the only one there. The pizza place. They're called Chianti, and that means plant. I think in Italian, anyway, The reason that they're so amazing is because everybody eats pizza there. It doesn't matter if people are vegan or not. It's just good pizza like everybody comes in and I swear to you people go the best pizza I've ever had and over over over again. It's people who are non beings getting it right, so I'm excited for that. Also, Food World, right, as it most always be like Oh, it's vegan. It's figure plant based. Let's just make good food, you know, clear seem a kind of big,

spk_0:   11:37
great point. Love that of that. All right. So moving forward less. Let's talk about this micro sanctuary. First of all, can you explain what is a micro farm sanctuary? Yes.

spk_1:   11:50
So you know, Farm Sanctuary's, which I think the 1st 1 was from Gene Baur, right. The farm sanctuary were literally farm animals who normally end up on plates are either those kinds of animals and who we think of or our overall side of things as production. There. They're like products, right? He created a safe haven for for them. And so basically, to get to live out their lives running around on the grass or wherever it is, whatever or rule around the money, you know, eating what they're supposed to be eating, not feeding them stuff, to fatten them up, but actually went biologically And what nature dictates that that animals should be eating. And they had the care that they need. In a lot of cases, they were animals in a very rescued kind of situation. So they come and live there, right? So that's that's in general like a sanctuary is for animals to be able to live out their lives in their natural habitat and have it be a safe a place where they can get, you know, met old needs and food and all consuming love and care, Right? So those tend to be quite large, at least traditionally, they've been hundreds of acres of land. And so the US to be able to support a lot of animals that you know would need to be rescued are brought in or what have you. So it doesn't take a lot of capital to be able to do that. Either you're raising that money or you have it. Our foundation donates water. It is a lot of money because Leanne and if you're buying land, that's very obscure. Another places that's fine. It is hard for people to get Teoh. So you do wanna have it where? Maybe it's a little more in touch with people in all of this. So these air kinds of some of the things that form sanctuaries right are thinking all dealing with. So thus, then started a bit of a movement called like My Creating Micro Sanctuaries, and I believe that term was coined by a group that started a nonprofit called My Conversation. I think they are. My per century got work anyway on what they were doing was saying, Well, Jace, let's he even try People have land or have an affinity for animals and really want to help rescue much like people who are people. I'm a big cat prison. When people were dog people, they go to shelters right and held or helped to rescue them and place them in holes or what have you. So why not take that concept and now apply it to a sanctuary where it's farm animals? And now you kind of have this micro stationery where you know no number has been distinguished, but it's not in the scale of like the hundreds. So you can literally rescue by 10 rabbits if you want and be a rabbit rescue saying, you know, micro sanctuary, maybe chicken skin in your backyard. That that kind of faith. So it doesn't have to be, Ah, large animal, larger animals like horses or cows. Let's say of donkeys, any kind of state farm animal you can have on a micro

spk_0:   14:46
state got it. All right, So how did you then go from, you know, loving animals and knowing about sanctuaries to say I'm gonna open my own?

spk_1:   14:58
Yes. So Okay, so my started off with the food part of things, right? And then looking at it from a health standpoint, then going, Oh, gosh, I want to be responsible about on the planet and then how we treat animals because I realized that, um, you know, so I I also I So I received a couple of cats as well. I'm big cat lady, you know? So I rescued them. And when I see, when I say I saved them, I literally mean like my first capital got. I saw him get hit by a car. So I was in the moment in a rescue situation there. Then later, I took in a street cat as his girlfriends, as that's my Santiago in Sofia. And what I guess I realized, is that I while not eating them But by then having Peskin my phone, I started to develop a relationship with these animals. Right? So I started really noticing, like, what is it? They need? What they like with their personalities. What is this? What is that about? And I got just such a sense of fulfillment from these animals, right? I mean, I love them as a gift. I burst them myself, you know, and I know that that seems normal when we talk about cats and dogs. So as a vegan, I then started going, Gosh, we'll be like to have that kind of relationship with a cow or a big, you know, or a horse or a donkey or whatever. So I was like, God, I would love to have a beautiful home with a safe haven for those animals and just have them be like my family. Like my cats on my family. Ain't no way that that my cat Santiago when I saw him get hit by the car, something in me spark I was like, Not on my watch. That cat ain't going down. He's gonna have an amazing life. So I, you know, swooped in. So I think transfer by my my love of them, right, Transfer to brush. I love to expand the bat and now have that relationship with other kinds of animals. But I love to have that monkeys too. If I were now, you know, trained for that kind of thing on E knows when they might have a lot of my first serve. I don't know, but for now this next step is definitely I want to expand to farm animals and really developed relationship out. So it wasn't out of this mentality off. Oh, gosh, there's a lack or that these animals are somehow Victor. I mean, I understand they are exploited, you know? But the natural state of animal at Mel's is not a place of victimhood, right? They are beautiful, amazing beings, and they are part off nature and really important, right? So it was like, how can I be a part of helping to preserve some of that right in in a smaller, more manageable number? So I thought, OK, because I got two cats. So then it became, well, mediocre. Two cows to Beijing or 60 have my own little micro Nick was our crate and figure out then how how I could make a difference with them. Um, and who knows? Maybe then the next chapter of our non profit, you know, off a sniper sanctuary could be to help other people who want to then start there on micro section years without having kind of going through the process. We can help. Guide will raise money may be right or whatever. Soon that's thinking ahead, but that that was the progression waas my cell phone video that that my heart really endure in after.

spk_0:   18:41
What a beautiful story. And it's so interesting that connection, that relationship, because I knew very little people who didn't never have a pet before I had. I met my boyfriend and he had never had a dog. And so my little shy who's just got she's little. But her personality is certainly not. And he first thought, OK, I'm not going to really get along with the £11 hawala. You know, that's not a man's dog. And I'll tell you what. He found love with her, and I got to kind of see it through his eyes In that he said, Wow, she's she likes that she's got she wants that she's got a personality like it was eye opening to him. And it didn't really occur to me that some people hadn't discovered that relationship yet right in that personality. And then we take it to the next level of animals that people are growing up thinking that they're meant to be eaten right, killed and eaten that their commodity, that they're basically a machine and Then there's that next level of connection of saying Okay, wait, I got a question that because if my dog has this amazing personality, I love my dog. And here's this cow in this pig and a white pigs are even smarter than dogs, and they feel pain and they experience joy to. And so then to make that step is when is when things start to fall together in the oneness. For me, it's a heart opening, and I see that that seems to be what happened with you, too.

spk_1:   20:20
Absolutely. 100%. Yeah, it's really cool that you got to see it like on the side while he you know, I was going through it because, you know, we have cultures in other countries where look, the cow is sacred in India, right? And right now we're going through cove it right in country China, right? There's probably nothing that they don't eat as a culture, right? Oh, from score abuse and bugs. Two bass two, you know, roll over. I mean, chimpanzees or whatever. I think it's the brains. I mean, right, like so on one hand, I understand. Like eating all parts of the Inuit But it's interesting how culturally we have these different relationships with animals, you know, and how we treat them. Absolutely. I like you really want to foster an opportunity for that oneness or that bond, how beautiful they really are and have it be. You know, some people use the word healing, and then I heard other yogis or gurus use. Healing equals also enlightenment, right? Like they're actually one in the same. And so I like that feeling of it where you could be a little bit more aware and lions about what's available to you in a relationship.

spk_0:   21:34
Awesome. And I love also the multi purpose of having a sanctuary in that it's not just about the animals that are fortunate enough to come live out their lives, feeling loved and experience and grass and I keep getting. This whole episode is making me have chills all over my body because you you see the you know, you see these animals that are released into grass for the first time that have been right, and, like I'm gonna and I will start crying. If I talk about it, it's just yes, Oh, it's just so emotional. But so It's not just about those animals who are fortunate enough to be able to to get this second chance at life, but also being able to educate and help people connect with those animals and intimate ways that they get to experience that relationship to Yes, so this is so much bigger than having a few animals. And I think that's one of the reasons I I really wanted us to have you on, and you kind of follow this journey with you and be a part of it and get to know the animals and have are empowered. Begin lifers really be intimately involved is that we get to experience that and see how big this is that it's a micro sanctuary. But what it is is so much bigger than that. You're

spk_1:   22:52
hitting the nail on the head, actually, for something else, I'd like to share where we are kind of with things right, because at this moment we're we're looking for land and we don't have land yet, right. But as you know, you and I and our other board member, Chad, right, we're forming together and we're for kind of like starting the the step. What into paperwork in the hole, that kind of stuff getting a west I know these things while we're also looking for land well, so in part of mine reaching out or just education of being a part of groups that are micro centuries or larger from sanctuaries. I have heard about some pace that were needing a home. And, you know, you see a lot of these things actually like, kind of come up in any way. I happened to see this post about these pigs, and there are 11 of them. And there with a couple where the wife, the husband and the wife husbands a farmer and works on a large farm and wife. And he had their own set of pigs and they were selling off, You know, the pigs or whatever role last year, income and she, the wife hadn't really started to emotionally become very affected by selling these animals, and she became a vegetarian and she said, for us and I don't want to sell anymore off our picks to the other last novel. But they couldn't support 11 so they reached out sanctuaries support to take them so eyes larger sanctuary, who has kind of been like the quarterback you're, you know, in helping out because this couple reached out to them. I was looking for trying home because they didn't have any more space for Biggie's. And so I saw the pictures with these things, and I was like, You know, that same feeling I had when I saw my Santiago get hit by the car was be space, right, you know, and I started looking at the pictures, and the personalities are all being described in this thing. And I was like, Oh, God, I'm so done for you and only, but there are many land and are starting. You know, our surgery is not an established yet, and you know all the stuff, right? Nice. Did you let me just sit impossibility for just a second instead of coming up with all of these limitations and reasons why it wouldn't be able to work right? I said, Let's just see where this road could go. So I reached out to the sanctuary kind of message back, and I said, Listen, I'd be happy to take Spain's visit, however, no land I haven't yet said on my live 13 c I'm in the process. You know, I'm Isn't that any other? I said, but I'm I wanna help, you know, or something. Or maybe taking Think I don't know. I'm just letting you know I'm reaching out, right? And they were so thankful and saying Wow. Okay, great. Well, let's see what is possible here. Because I was all, like, I don't even know if I can. Maybe I could give you a little money for them, but I don't know what's going on, you know? So they contacted the couple that asked how much it would be per month to kind of, you know, pulled onto then and ensure that they could care for them in all this. So we've now made this arrangement where we are helping to provide funds to keep those animals live. In other words, this border sanctuary is giving the foods needed in all that, and I think they check amount, make sure medically, they weren't many, you know, situation, everybody spying on all things were going on. And so we're right now looking to keep them going. If they can be re homes to ah place, that's close by because our century B in Virginia and these pigs, Aaron in New York, though they can be home somewhere than great. That would be good to have their travel and transport, you know, less obtrusive. No great. But right now, Kobe Bryant, you know, So I know that a lot of sanctuaries, air strapped and so forth. So anyway, you said, Look, we're not on the banned these pigs, so let's keep this going. And once we have our land and have shelter and all the stuff and sinking, all the proper things in place will transport those peas. So who knows? We might area 11 pigs and wait. So I share that thinking. I think your story about even people's awareness to animals. But then now taking it a little further to that. OK, say you are aware and you are vegan and you're really into wanting to have your own sanctuary. Just try and live impossibility for a moment. Right and explore doesn't mean they're committed to do anything right. But just explore what's possible and look at for yourself what, you know, direction. You couldn't go in as opposed to looking at all the limitations because you never know it could absolutely leave in a way that is doable in a solution you never thought of. Maybe many people come to Ah, hello with donation, whatever it is, you know, don't cut off all of those those possible absolution.

spk_0:   27:55
I'm so glad you said that, cause this what we teach in this podcast, as you know, is all about creation and no limitations and the law of attraction. We get deep into all that, but it is. It is no joke. It is back in science. This shit works. Yes, indeed. And when you came to me and you, you showed us the pictures of the piggies. And I'm gonna post this in our block post. That's going to go up about this episode. And the email that will send out these links will be in the show notes so people can go learn more about what you guys can dio to help out. Because we need help. Sexy, fit vegan. My company is donating towards helping keep these piggies alive and well until they can have a permanent home. So please reach out. If you're wanting to be helpful now and again live in that possibility. If this is exciting you. This is resonating. This is this is getting you on the edge of your seat. I think exactly what you said and live in possibility. I love absolutely awesome. Yes, and well, I'm gonna post the pictures of the pig. They have names, they have personalities that they even describe. Oh, I'm in love with these pigs already. Yes, Awesome. So next step. So I'd like to have bring you back regularly. Can you kind of tell us just the state of where you're at now, your current situation, where you're at in terms of where we're at in terms of the nonprofit and land and all of that in a nutshell.

spk_1:   29:27
Yeah, OK, great. So we're at eso. We have a name, right? Hugs and kisses Farm sanctuary. Ah, little play on on hogs and hugs. So we are in the process of finding some land and then once we dio, we're going to have the the animals come in, we'll slowly have them introduced and we're waiting on our 513 seed designation as well. So we hope to put the launch as soon as that is given to us by the I. R. S and bringing them the animal on and so forth. And we plan to have some people could be able to come by future vision actually will be that will have a bed and breakfast where people can come and stay and actually have a nice wage or interact with the animals there and so forth. So I would say, in terms of the whole process, were at the beginning right on stage Is all of this but exciting. And I would say, you know, next few months we should be able to really launch

spk_0:   30:30
Amazing. Yes. We are working hard to get Make that happen. Yeah. The cove indefinitely delayed us. We'll just say that. But we're getting there. We're getting there. And so we will bring you back on. And as we start to make some some other steps and get the land and get things going, and so you guys can start to meet the animals that are gonna come on and yeah, so much ahead. So much excitement. And I am so blessed and grateful that you invited me to be a part of it. And yeah.

spk_1:   31:02
Are you kidding me Out? You're You are definitely the reason I went vegan, period, right? Like the main influence or in my life. And when I thought about like, oh, that put aboard together and all this I was like, First of all, regardless of the fact that right, you like, you're one of my besties, right? But I was like, Who's gonna have the backs of these animals, right? Like I needed to have people on the board who would be like And that's not right. You got to do this or, you know, to really stand for the animals. Right? So I was like, it was a no brainer, Right? So yeah. So this was absolutely no Rayner a knob super honored that you said yes.

spk_0:   31:39
It was not a question at all. You you said that and it was like it. Like I said in the beginning, it was full circle for me because I'm so focused and I have been since I created sexy fit. Begin, Teoh, bring veganism into the mainstream. You know, I'm focused on the people because we're we got to be vegan for the people in order to be vegan for the animals because people have Teoh make that connection go vegan so that they can save the animals. So I've been focused on the people and I love I love people. But my face for everything that I dio is saving the animals. And it has been since I was seven years old and learned what was on my plate. So with that being said something that, you know, little void in my heart is not being around those animals more often. I visit sanctuaries as often as I can, but it's not a regular part of my schedule. So this you said this and it was like the heavens opened up. It was all thistles it on. And it is one of those things that you know, the possibilities. I've been just open to receiving something happening like this. And there was just handed to me on a silver platter. Awesome. Yeah, right. Planets aligned for sure. Absolutely. Ok. And before we go, we're gonna dio what we're gonna call a sprint round with our guests, and I call it Sprint. I was trying to, you know, lightning round, but sprint is so fitness oriented. So that's why I chose sprint. Uh, and your 1st 1 to be able to do it, so get ready.
